Upon the invitation of Bishop Stokes with the acceptance of the Vestry of Christ Church, Middletown, New Jersey, I, The Rev. Dr. William Carl Thomas, accept the position of Priest-in-Charge effective May 1, 2015.
So much for “formal” language. I am delighted and excited to receive this call from God to join you in the life and ministry we will share in the years to come.
As a child who grew up on the other side of New York City in Westchester County, coming to Middletown is like coming home. My father’s family has roots in this area. When my dad was growing up in the 1930’s, his family lived in Westfield and other parts of New Jersey. I remember as a child in the late 1950’s, visiting the farm my grandfather maintained near Red Bank.
My wife, Edna Marie (with the wonderful smile), and I celebrated 41 years of marriage on October 13th, and 25 years of my priesting on December 20th. Middletown places us within easy access to a direct flight from Trenton to Raleigh NC. My daughter Melinda, her husband Mark, and our first grandchild, Cole (who will soon be one year old) live in nearby Cary. My mother and one of my five younger brothers and his family also live in this area. Middletown is but a train ride or car ride up the Connecticut coast where our son, Adam, and his wife Leah live in Mystic with our other grandchildren: Twins Amelia and Charlie (who are four months younger than cousin Cole). Adam is a priest and rector of St. Mark’s, Mystic. We feel so blessed to be able to easily visit and care for family from our new home.
As we get to know one another better, I look forward to sharing our stories and our passions in the days, months, and years to come. If you would like to learn more about me, please go to my website balconypersepective.com.
Please know that you are in my prayers of thanksgiving!
