Outreach Ministry

Our Outreach Projects

Lenten Alms

The Outreach Committee has selected Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD) to be the recipient of our Lenten Alms for 2018. We practice our connection to Lent in many ways, through prayer, fasting and helping with others in need. Through each of these disciplines we find a deeper connection with Christ. Our 2018 Lenten Alms project will help communities to create long-term development strategies and rebuild after disasters. Please make checks payable to Christ Church with “Lenten Alms” on the memo line. Thank you!

Outreach Committee

This committee makes recommendations to the Vestry on community and world needs that might be addressed through our annual outreach budget. The committee also raises funds to distribute to worthwhile organizations, helping others around the corner and around the world.

Outreach Coffee Sale

Quarterly Outreach Coffee Sales offer the opportunity to stock up on delicious fresh-roasted coffee from Jersey Shore Coffee Roasters, and help those in need at the same time. All profits from the sale benefit Christ Church Outreach projects. Thanks for your support!

COG Household Goods Drive

Household and personal cleaning items that are collected throughout the year are delivered to the Calico Cat (COG) pantry. November is our month to donate the cleaning products we've collected throughout the year.

Thanksgiving Ingathering

Every year we provide a turkey with all of the fixings for a complete Thanksgiving feast, to be distributed to those in need from St. Mark's Community Center in Keansburg. Thanks for your support!

Family Promise

Twelve area churches offer their facilities on a weekly basis throughout the year to host the temporarily homeless. The program is coordinated by a social worker who assists the participants with job and housing searches from the Day Center. Christ Church members perform several duties during the week we host, such as preparing meals, setting-up and breaking-down temporary sleeping quarters, attending to overnight needs, and serving as hospitality providers.

Family Promise Cardboard Box City

Youth and Mentors spend one night sleeping under the stars in uniquely designed and decorated boxes to raise funds and awareness for Family Promise of Monmouth County. Family Promise provides essential services to families with children who are temporarily without homes.

St. Mark's Meal Program

Volunteer teams of 4 or 5 people set up, cook, serve, wash dishes and clean up at the noontime meal at St. Mark's Soup Kitchen (Center for Community Renewal) on one Friday each month and every Saturday. About 100 free meals are served daily to the hungry who visit the kitchen seven days a week. Meal preparers and on-site volunteers are needed.

Seamen's Church: Toiletries Needed

The Seamen's Church Institute distributes gifts to mariners who are miles away from home during the holidays. Each gift includes useful items like hand lotion, soaps, mouthwash, etc. This is an ongoing project for Outreach, to be delivered twice per year. Please place your donations in a plastic bag labeled "SCI" and place in the little red wagons at the church entrance.

Aslan Youth Ministries

Aslan’s programs include one-on-one mentoring and tutoring, character development classes anchored in Christian values and principles, recreational activities, summer camps, cultural enrichment programs, intervention services and scholarship assistance programs for higher learning. Christ Church supports Aslan regularly with monetary donations, as well as providing a complete summer camp lunch.

Food is needed, especially canned protein (stew, tuna, peanut butter, etc.)
