In Memoriam
We celebrate family and friends who have gone before us
with a memorial service of readings and music.
We hope you will join us at 7:00 pm for this annual interfaith remembrance of the loved ones we have lost. The service will be live streamed as well. Here is the bulletin for the evening: all_souls_day_2023_with_photo.pdf
For the past 12 years, the Brookdale Concordia Chorale, now entering their 23rd season, has sung a setting of the Requiem Mass every November 2nd, the traditional All Souls Day, when those who have passed are remembered and their lives celebrated. The Chorale would like to thank Christ Episcopal Church, Middletown, for welcoming us here and thus enabling us to continue this important tradition. The sections of this setting of the requiem mass will be interleaved with readings from various faith traditions which are designed to encompass all that this day has come to mean.
This setting by Joseph Gabriel Rheinberger (1839 – 1901) is quite brief. It is unusual in its omission of the Dies Irae and the Pie Jesu. Rheinberger is best known for his 20 organ sonatas which are a central part of the organ repertory of the mid-late nineteenth century. Upon his appointment in 1877 as Director of the Court Chapel Choir in Munich, he turned his attention to choral music. This work is one of his final compositions.
